Sound-O-Music Singalong!!

Went to a much anticipated" Sound-O-Music Singalong" the other night, shown, of all places, at the World War II Museum. It kinda sucked. We had a great time because our costumes were fabulous and because we were obnoxious. But the event was pretty tragic. The crowd just didn’t get it.

At first I thought it was going to be great because the crowd was HUGE. (They actually had to turn away a bus load of real live nuns because the place was too full. The nuns had driven all the way from Alabama and, apparently, weren't too pleased with the rejection. They had filthy mouths!) But the vast majority there were people like my parents who, I’m pretty sure, thought they were going to finally see S-O-M again on the big screen, after all these years of watching it at home with their crappy VCR's. (And one must admit it's a beautiful film, and really does need the big screen...) So of course they didn’t wear costumes. They brought the kids…. And they didn’t seem to appreciate the antics of those in the audience, like myself and friends, who were there for some high camp, instead of the feel good summer sensation of 1964.

We danced and sang, cracked filthy jokes, spilled drinks and broke my camera. “Oh, I’m sorry, Ma’am. But no, I will not stop adding suggestive lyrics to ‘The Lonely Goatherd.’ And yes, the original plainly states that he was ‘high, on a hill.’ You do the math!”

I do love this town but sometimes it's very provincial. I mean, the queers didn’t even turn out for this show. The gays in this town just don't ever seem to do the things we are stereotypically expected to do. The only thing they will do is go to the gay bars and watch bad videos, over and over and over….. Oh well…

Surely you've already seen this video but it’s fun to watch again and again! (They should put this on the big screen…)

I didn't know there was a geisha in Sound of Music.
